Queen Victoria Hospital

The addition of extended treatment cottages provided an opportunity for outdoor therapy, events, visitors, and personal time, considering mobility, cognitive, and weather challenges.
To accommodate a range of mobility and uses, ergonomically designed, durable benches were provided in addition to moveable tables and chairs. To allow for limited supervision and to give residents freedom to move about safely, patios were designed as circular looping pathways to assist in wayfinding. Plant selections were designed to be stimulating to the senses, non-poisonous, and included edible herbs. Trees were also carefully located to provide shade for those residents sensitive to the hot summer sun.
